Key Fact:
Do You Know The History of The Shorts and Why They Became So Popular?
Somewhere in Bermuda, maybe in a little tea shop, the first shorts were sewn. Nathaniel Coxton, the business owner, did not want to buy his employees new, more comfortable uniforms, so he had a local tailor shorten the legs of their existing trousers. This is how briefs initially made their debut in the mainstream. British officers who frequented Bermuda's yacht clubs encouraged local tailors to start producing suits in the same style. It helped make Bermuda shorts the standard island wear in the Roaring Twenties. In spite of this widespread acceptance, however, the widespread adoption of Bermuda shorts was not a smooth process. The lengthy period of time when shorts were considered offensive and frowned upon is reflected in their history. It wasn't until the 1950s that males above the age of 18 started wearing shorts publicly. The United States was the place where this was most obvious. The hip hop subculture of the 1990s promoted hairstyles that were longer, looser, and baggier. Even (cargo) shorts, which were ridiculed in the aughts because they made their wearers seem like their parents, are back in style. The whole fashion scene of the aughts decade was terrible.
